More than 640,000 tonnes of nets, lines and traps used in fishing are dumped and discarded in the sea every year, globally, endangering flora and fauna. Spanning a total of 75,000 sqkm ,it’s already large enough to cover Panama entirely. .

Most plastic bottles used for soft drinks and water are made from polyethylene terephthalate (PET), which is highly recyclable, but efforts to collect and recycle them are failing to keep up.
